Intent
Intent Statement
Our intention is that the provision of Maths will enable us to achieve our vision – every child a success.
'The intent of our mathematics curriculum is to maximise the development of every child’s ability and academic achievement through the ‘mastery’ approach. The children are taught through a concrete, pictorial and abstract approach in order to represent their learning in different ways. We want our children to enjoy and remain resilient when being challenged in maths and be confident to explain their understanding using the correct mathematical vocabulary. At St Peter’s C of E Primary School we encourage the children to make rich connections across mathematical ideas to develop fluency, mathematical reasoning and competence in solving increasingly sophisticated problems. We intend for our pupils to be able to apply their mathematical knowledge to other subjects and to have an appreciation of how maths plays a fundamental role in everyday life and the wider world.'
