Welcome to Year 4
Dear Year 4,
Welcome to Year 4! I am so excited to share the journey of this coming school year with you.
This year brings us all so many opportunities to grown and learn. We are all being challenged to have high expectations for ourselves.
During Year 4 we will be learning about the Ancient Egyptians and the Anglo Saxons in History. You will be developing the confidence to evaluate your own learning and monitor and review your targets through using our new Learning Ladders.
Hopefully by the end of Year 4 all of you will know all your times tables and be confident with explaining and teaching each other mathematical strategies and how to solve problems. You will be extending your writing skills each week; editing, proof-reading and up-levelling your own work. This year you will become fluent, confident readers, able to discuss and evaluate a range of genres and you will all earn your pen licence!
You will continue learning to swim this year and you will build on your previous skills playing the Ukulele and learn to play the Guitar. There will be many new opportunities and experiences ahead of you this year as well as a variety of challenges. Reaching your goals can be scary and sometimes frustrating, especially when you get stuck at something. It takes a very long time to become an expert at something you are not yet so good at. Scientists have proved that the only way to learn and become more intelligent is to try something new and really work at it… even if you make mistakes!
We all make mistakes. I want you to make mistakes. This is the best way to learn – try something tricky, make mistakes, get feedback and then learn from that.
Never be afraid to try new things. I am here to support you. This year will be the best one yet. All of your teachers want only the best for you.
