Governor Vacancy

Step into Leadership: Join the Governing Board at St Peter’s C of E Primary School!

🏫 Location: Minniecroft Road, Burnham, Buckinghamshire

🌟 Mission: Helping our children “achieve with all their might” through Love, Respect, and Resilience.

Are you looking for a powerful way to give back to the Burnham community? Do you want to play a direct role in shaping the minds, hearts, and futures of local children?

St Peter’s Church of England Primary School is expanding its Local Governing Board! We are hunting for passionate, community-minded visionaries to partner with our Headteacher, Mrs Tanya Morris, and our dedicated leadership team. Together, we will guide our school community into its exciting next chapter.

🚀 Why This Role is Your Next Great Adventure

Volunteering as a school governor is one of the most rewarding ways to create lasting local impact. By stepping up, you will:

  • Champion Young Minds: Directly influence the strategic direction of a nurturing school where every child is encouraged to thrive.
  • Grow Your Own Capabilities: Gain exceptional executive-level experience in strategic planning, complex problem-solving, and collaborative decision-making.
  • Be a Voice for Burnham: Bring your unique lived experiences, fresh cultural insights, and personal perspectives to the table to ensure our school remains inclusive and vibrant.

🧠 No Education Experience? No Problem!

We explicitly do not require a background in teaching or schools. We will provide you with all the training and mentoring you need to feel confident. Instead, we want real-world life skills!

We are actively looking for fresh perspectives from a wide range of backgrounds, including:

  • Finance & Budgeting (Helping us maximise resources for our pupils)
  • Human Resources & People Management (Supporting our incredible staff team)
  • Legal, Compliance & Policy (Keeping our framework safe and strong)
  • Marketing, PR & Digital Communications (Celebrating St Peter’s with the world)
  • Premises, Estates & Environmental Management (Enriching our physical learning spaces)

If you have an enquiring mind, a collaborative spirit, and the time to dedicate to our school's vision, you have exactly what it takes.

🎯 What Does a Governor Actually Do?

As a trusted steward of St Peter's, you will focus on three core pillars of governance:

  1. Shaping the Vision: Setting the long-term values, strategy, and ethos of the school.
  2. Nurturing High Standards: Looking at data, asking constructive questions, and acting as a "critical friend" to hold school leaders accountable for pupil progress.
  3. Smart Spending: Overseeing the school's financial health to ensure every penny directly benefits the children’s learning and well-being.

In practice, this means attending board meetings, visiting the school to see our values in action, reviewing performance data, and helping make big-picture decisions about school life.

🛡️ Our Commitment to Excellence & Safety

True leadership requires character. Our governors hold themselves to the highest standards of public life—acting with selflessness, integrity, openness, and honesty.

St Peter’s C of E Primary School is strictly committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. To ensure our school community remains safe, all appointed governors must successfully complete an enhanced DBS check and participate in regular safeguarding training.
